BlueVia, Telefónica platform for developers with APIs, created by Telefónica I+D

BlueVia is a global environment for developers, which allows to create and to sell applications based on the capabilities of an operator, valid for any country in which Telefónica operates.

It represents the commitment of the company for the open innovation model, in which the collaboration with the developers community can provide the development and the use of an enormous number of applications in a very competitive market.

With this platform, Telefónica provides developers the creation of services and applications that require the support of an operator (short messages, multimedia messages, calls control…). They can also combine these capabilities with others, such as advertising or payments. At the same time, the set of interfaces offered by Telefónica is also enriched with these partners or external collaborators. The goal is to turn BlueVia into an attractive global site, where the developers would go to contribute with their talents and creativity.

Telefónica I+D develops the portal and the Business Framework, and it unifies the programming

interfaces

The BlueVia Portal- element designed and developed in Telefónica I+D - is the single access point so that developers can obtain information on the APIs of Telefónica, download a SDK (software development kit), as well as test and debug their applications. Through the portal, developers can access the module configuration and definition of the business model (Business Framework).

Business Framework allows Telefónica to define the BlueVia business model. It allows to define the income allocation model with the developer in terms of multiple parameters: source of income (downloads, use of APIs, advertising, etc.), country, type of developer... This income distribution model is used for a "mediator of payments" to make payments to the parties involved.

The use of communication eases, which provide the BlueVia interfaces, moves internally to equipments and systems of each and every one of the Telefónica operators. A platform thanks to the work of Telefónica I+D is used for its correct functioning to ensure the correct deployment and use of the platforms of each operator in the service.

Global programming interfaces have been defined by Telefónica I+D under the "unique" philosophy. This framework definition homogenizes interfaces of each of the companies of the group as well as the visible interfaces by third parties. These interfaces extend existing standards to adapt the needs of Telefónica. They have become a common language for the company, they provide the exchange of information and the reuse of functionality between services and, therefore, the deployment of services.

The applications of BlueVia developers, as well as those of Telefónica, will be available for all customers, through an "application store" that will provide its download for the end users.

Launch

The first phase of launch (December 2010) allowed that applications could be used by Telefónica customers in the United Kingdom, Mexico and Argentina. The register as a developer was made by invitation, either sent directly from BlueVia or sent by someone registered already.
